Labor Sale
2023
11”x 17”x 13”
11” x 17” posters, 16-quart milk crate, mattress cover bag, orange safety fence, paper mache
For this project, I wanted my audience to be able to hold a Labor Sale brochure that promoted potential employees, mirroring the experience of being at a grocery store shopping for daily essentials. I dressed my models up as grocery goods with Employee Value labels and photographed them in the studio as if they were actual products that needed to be sold. Executives can now shop conveniently and efficiently for their employees based solely on the price-to-value ratio, all listed on the brochure. I questioned what happens when humans are marketed as commodities and how dehumanizing it is for our worth to be determined only by the labor we contribute.
