My Curtain
2023
3ft x 8ft x 2”
80 lint rollers, steel wire, curtain rod, adhesive hooks, dust, hair, fabric lint, dirt
The curtain is a self-portrait: I am a collector of the experience and interaction with other people around me. While I often yearn for connections, I also build up layers of boundaries between me and others and the curtain symbolizes that boundary. The work was installed between the only doorway in the space where people were invited and/ or forced to walk through.
Dust is a subtle material that has the power of articulating the transition of an artifact and the passing of time. My Curtain never retained its original form after the first interaction. As time went on, the lint rollers continued sticking to each other, forming different pathways while simultaneously accumulating external materials from the audience and the environment around it.
